What Do Your Breakouts Say About Your Health?

Do you notice that you are breaking out in certain areas of your face more often than others? Or do you ever wonder whether those breakouts that somehow always pop on the exact same spot on your face are due to factors other than forgetting to wash your face last night?

Breakouts may have a deeper meaning. The most common breakouts are located on the nose, between the brows, cheeks, chin, around the mouth, and above the brows.

Here is how you can keep them from happening.

NOSE

Your nose is linked to your heart and lungs. It is also a sign that you may have a poor diet, or poor blood circulation. Blackheads in this area are quite normal due to an abundance of oil glands. You should reduce your salt intake, and increase your fruit and vegetable intake, especially those foods that are high in fiber.

BETWEEN THE BROWS

Breakouts between your arches usually means that you may be having too many cocktails with the girls, or eating fatty foods. This area becomes irritated because of poor circulation, or gall bladder problems. A significant amount of water everyday is key. Try cutting down on foods like butter and cheese while being mindful of those late night snacks.

CHEEKS

A hormonal imbalance, stress, or high sugar consumption can be the reason for breakouts on your cheeks. However, GERMS is also a huge contributing factor to breakouts in this area. Be mindful of how close you are holding your cell phone to your face. The screen accumulates oil and makeup from pressing onto our faces. Take note that laying on dirty pillowcases and using dirty makeup brushes can also instigate a breakout in this region. Be sure to clean and swap your linens on a normal basis, wipe your phone screens throughly and don’t forget to wash your makeup brushes as often as you can.

CHIN

Pimples that occur in that dreaded lower chin area are typically related to hormonal problems, gynecological issues, or a kidney imbalance. There is a reason why you ten to see more blemishes pop up when you are about to start your period. This is what we call hormonal acne. The chin is also linked to the small intestine, so sometimes diet changes can make a huge difference. If you stay away from dairy and oily meals this will help this area clear up.

AROUND THE MOUTH

Acne here can be caused by constipation, an excess of spicy or fried foods. You may notice a rash or lumpy spots, these can be triggered by hormonal changes, beauty products, or bacteria. If you increase your fiber intake, as well as easing up on the spices, you will be able to see a difference. Also remember to clean your makeup brushes.

ABOVE THE BROWS

Forehead breakouts are linked to digestive issues. It can be an indication of food intolerance or an overburdened liver. Toxins and lack of water are also familiar culprits to blemishes in this area. Be sure to consume the daily suggested amount of water so that the toxins are flushed out of your system, and get at least seven hours of sleep.

As always, you should keep up with a regular skincare routine, but keep in mind that some of the breakouts can be treated from the inside out. Check your diet and get rid of any over processed foods that aren’t doing your skin any favors.

To Take Care Of Your Skin, You MUST Mist

Hot and humid weather can wreak havoc on your skin. The extra heat and moisture in the air can lead to an over production of oil and greasy.

Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to run through the first sprinkler you could find? Well the grown up version is a facial mist, for spritzing your overheated skin, or for the dewy glow that you would like to have.

Why should you mist?

HYDRATION– Misting sprays provide a hydration layer on the skin which can last all day. When it is applied to your face, it will trap all the beneficial elements on your skin.  On a hot day, it can soothe and refresh all skin types.

REJUVENATION– A light misting can revive your tired face or refresh your makeup after a long tiring day or a long flight.

PREVENTION & PROTECTION– A face mist with a good mineral composition can help to restore the skin’s pH balance.

REVIVING & SETTING MAKEUP- Face mist can be used both pre and post makeup application. Misting your face before applying your makeup provides the perfect canvass for application, while applying after can help achieve the dew-like complexion and keep your makeup looking fresh all day.

YOUR GUIDE TO FLAWLESS SKIN THIS SUMMER

Summertime is for easy living. Beach and boating days, pool parties, lounging with family and friends is what we tend to do in the summer. This summer, we want you to be your best beautiful self all summer long with our beauty tips.

LET YOUR SKIN BREATHE:

Incorporate a deep cleansing mud mask your skincare regimen twice a week. This will help to draw out impurities and detoxify the skin.

DO SCRUB:

The heat means less clothing,(like who really wants to be a hot, sweaty mess?) so prep for your skin’s smooth, glowing appearance by exfoliating weekly with a body scrub. Pay attention to rough and dry areas such as your elbows, knees, and heels.

DO MOISTURIZE:

A moisturizer with SPF protection like an oil free moisturizer with SPF 30 is ideal for daily use.

AVOID MAKEUP MELTDOWNS:

After cleansing and moisturizing, use a primer. Once you have applied your makeup, spritz on a setting spray to lock in your beauty look.

BUILD YOUR TAN THE SAFE WAY:

You can get a sun-kissed look by booking an appointment for a spray tan at the boutique.

It is important to make these changes to your daily skincare routine to accommodate the rising temperatures, increasing humidity, sun exposure, and use of air conditioning.

The Clear Skin Diet

You may have heard time and time again that certain foods can affect the appearance of your skin.

Once the food that you have put into your mouth has metabolized and delivered to your skin, you will notice some differences. Nutrition is one of the least-understood areas of health, especially in the context of skin care. Your food is circulated in its smallest form, so that the nutrients can be repackaged and reconstructed, and then transported to the organs that need them.

You will never stop battling with your skin. When you think you have gotten over the acne war, then comes wrinkles and fine lines. There are many products on the market that can assist you in combating these issues, but you may also want to also to approach your skin care from the inside out.

What you eat and drink can keep your exterior in excellent condition. There are foods to keep skin hydrated and soft and foods that protect skin cells from damage. Although, there are foods that might hurt your skin.

It is a good idea to incorporate the following skin-healthy foods in your diet:

• DARK CHOCOLATE: Chocolate hydrates your skin, making it firmer, and more supple.

YOGURT: You can prevent wrinkles with yogurt. If you eat a single serving daily it can make your complexion smoother. The protein you get from eating yogurt helps your skin become firmer and more resistant to lines.

POMEGRANATES: Pomegranates are filled with antioxidants that regulates the skins blood flow.

WALNUTS: Walnuts contain omega 3 essential fatty acids which improve the elasticity.

PEPPERS: Yellow and green peppers can fight crows feet around the eyes.

SOY: Drink a latte with soy milk or eat edamame for a clearer complexion.

GREEN TEA: Green tea has antioxidants that helps to fight inflammation.

Here are some food types that you should steer clear off:

SALT: Too much salt can cause you to retain water, which can lead to swelling and puffiness.

SHELLFISH: Shrimp, Crab, and Lobster, as well as spinach are high in iodine which can cause acne.

ALCOHOL: Alcohol is a diuretic. The more you drink of it, the more dehydrated you become. It saps the natural moisture from your skin, and those fine line and wrinkles that you may be trying to avoid will now be a big deal.

MILK: Some dairy products contribute to skin problems such as acne and rosacea.

SUGAR: High sugar counts can weaken the skin and leave you more vulnerable to lines and wrinkles.

If you make small changes in your diet and increase your water intake, you can have radiant glow, banish wrinkles, and keep your skin soft one bite at a time.

The 411 On Getting The Perfect Glow

The summer is quickly approaching and you probably know that “looking tanned” is the hottest accessory you can own.

Just about everyone looks a lot better when then have a little color. Baking in the sun all day is REALLY bad for our skin and now tons of people are turning to spray tanning to get that beautiful bronze glow.

You may ask, what is spray tanning?

Spray tanning is a form of self tanning (or sunless tanning) where a fine mist is sprayed onto your body. This mist has an ingredient in it called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) that interacts with your own skin’s chemistry to turn it tan, or bronze.

Getting a spray tan is definitely a little easier and less time-consuming than spreading a lotion or gel all over your body. Additionally, another benefit of spray tanning is the fact that it dries quicker than many self tanning products, and it’s less likely to get all over your clothes, your bed, and your partner!

If you’ve never got butt-naked in front of a stranger before, never fear it’s not as bad as you think.

Here are a few handy tips to know before you come into the boutique to get that glow.

1) Wear the tiniest set of underwear that you can find. (A g-string will do).

2)Make sure you shave or wax 24 hours before your appointment.

3)Be sure to exfoliate your skin the day before your appointment. It is important to slough off as much dead and dry skin as possible. Trust us, you’ll get a better result!

4)Remove moisturizers, makeup and deodorant before you spray tan. These products contain ingredients like oils that can make it hard for the main ingredient in self tanning spray to bind to your skin. This could cause your spray tan to look streaky and blotchy.  You don’t want that!

5)  Try to keep the spray tan solution on overnight and don’t put on any moisturizer until the next day. That means no showering, using soap, or any moisturizer for at least 8 hours.  You could shrink that time down a little, but you won’t get the best glow if you do.  The color starts to develop within an hour or two and really kicks in within 3-5 hours.

Now that you know everything you need to know about spray tanning, getting that sun kissed look is only an appointment away.

To Soak Or Not To Soak

Life can be very hectic at times. Throughout the day we are allowing negativity to infiltrate our mind and we are breathing in toxins. Sometimes, we can become so busy and wrapped up in the rat race, that we are unable to tear ourselves away for twenty minutes for “me” time to distress and unwind.

The bathtub is the perfect place to distress. Many of you may already know this, and take frequent bubble baths. However, if you replace the bubbles with a little something extra, your bath time will transition into a detox session.

Once a week for twenty minutes, you should schedule a detox bath soak.

A detox bath is a great way to relax your mind, and cleanse the body of toxins out through your pores.  It is important to note that detoxification happens at both a chemical and emotional level. When taking a detox bath, it important to give yourself time and space to relax. You should consider dimming the lights and lighting some candles, or turning on some soothing music.

Prior to the bath, ensure that your tub is impeccably clean. Also, thoroughly wash your body in the shower with a loofa sponge to get rid of dead skin. Once you have showered, fill your tub with hot water and your ingredients for your soak.

At the boutique, we recommend, a Lavender and Hibiscus Mineral Bath Soak which is made with organic lemon myrtle, lavender, hibiscus, rose petals, and a blend of Atlantic Ceara, Pink Himalayan and Epsom salts, scented with lavender oil.  The mineral and epsom salts silken the feel of water and provide a relaxing, floating sensation that eases muscle aches, while the natural lavender and hibiscus extracts provide a calming, relaxing scent that brings a sense of well being.

We also recommend a Coconut Milk Soak.  It instantly calms dry skin. The ingredients of  coconut milk, cow’s milk, chicory Root, sea salt and sweet almond oil work in conjunction to soothe upset skin and reduce inflammation and swelling.Detox baths and soaps will lead to dehydration, and it is important to drink plenty of water.

Give your body and mind a little bit of loving. You will not regret it.

ENJOY!

Reap The Benefits Of Getting Consistent Facials

Facials have the power to seriously transform your skin. During a facial, your Esthetician uses a combination of steams, scrubs, cleansers, and conducts extractions which can make your skin less prone to acne, as well as reverse the aging process of your skin.

Who doesn’t want that right?

You may have heard and read so many different things about the good and the bad of facials, but we will set the record straight for you.

Yes, facials can be expensive, but you HAVE to invest in your skin to see the results. That said, unless your Esthetician tells you otherwise, it is not necessary to get a facial on a weekly basis, but you SHOULD get one on a monthly basis to improve the texture and appearance of your skin.

We are sure, you have been told to only get a facial during the summer months because your skin tends to breakout because it is more oily. A good facial can help your skin deal with cooler weather as well so it is not an excuse to skip on getting regular facials. Surely you will want to ensure that you unclog your pores on a consistent basis.

You may be expecting that your skin will look flawless immediately following a facial. We are not going to lie to you! You will walk out of a facial with reddened skin, but we promise it will fade quickly and you will notice an improved appearance, and glowing skin, which will further convince you that facials are totally worth it.

Remember your skin is always on display and it often has the power to dictate how good we feel about ourselves. Investing in a facial has a value that can be more important than buying a new dress.

Do I Really Need To Exfoliate?

You might have heard that our skin goes through a natural exfoliation process over a period of 28 days. The live cells at the bottom layer of the epidermis become harder as they work their way up to the surface, and eventually die off, revealing the newer cells underneath.

However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with speeding up the process. In order to have and maintain healthy, youthful, and glowing skin, you HAVE to exfoliate. It is an important step in your skincare regimen.

Exfoliating removes the old dead skin cells that causes dull, lackluster, or wrinkled skin that clogs your pores which wreaks havoc for your skin. Basically, exfoliating tricks your skin into thinking its younger.

Now that you know you HAVE to exfoliate, you are probably wondering how often you should exfoliate and what products to use to in an effort to keep your skin looking beautiful.

At Bliss, we recommend exfoliating your skin, at least two times per week. Anything more will be excessive, and it will ultimately cause damage. If you notice excessive dryness, irritation, and redness, you are probably over exfoliating. Remember your skin is not a 2×4 board that needs sanding so please be gentle.

If you have oily skin, as a general rule of thumb, you should exfoliate more often as oily skin makes it hard for dead skin cells to make their exit.

Those with sensitive skin, should use a gentle exfoliating cleanser twice a week to gently remove the dead skin cells.

If you have dry skin, you may actually get an abnormal build up of skin. Exfoliating will help the dead skin cells shed at a more normal rate making room for new skin cells, and hydrating the skin.

Those who have normal skin can use exfoliants up to three times each week.

We offer a number of products to trick your skin into thinking its younger:

Keep It Purrty

Our lady parts have recently been thrust into the spotlight from vajazzling and bleaching. However, there is a new beauty trend that is now getting attention. The vagina facial.

A vagical or a vagina facial is a simple way to replenish and restore the vaginas youth. The procedure is similar to a typical facial. The vulva is cleansed, exfoliated with a gentle scrub, and ingrown hairs are removed with a tweezer.

The point of getting a vagical or a vagina facial is to heal your vulva after you have removed all of the hair from a Brazilian wax.

Don’t worry, we know sometimes the topic of the vag or pampering it can feel somewhat taboo, but remember, your entire body deserves love and attention, even the parts that are constantly covered up.
